STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) education is a nationwide initiative that creates critical thinkers, increases science literacy, and enables the next generation of innovators. It is a synergestic approach to teaching the STEAM disciplines instead of isolating them as separate schools of thought.  It is the next logical step in what the STEM initiative began by incorporating Art to bring the right-brain into traditional scientific thinking.

The research is clear. Access to hands-on building, tinkering, and experiential learning-based curriculum can increase access to STEAM careers and build the skills critical for long-term success. However, many of the tools, expertise, and time needed to utilize these types of strategies are usually unavailable in public schools, and especially so in public schools serving low-income communities.

At Cathedral, we introduce STEAM concepts in a fun, interactive environment through workshops, symposiums, personal projects, and more. We target middle school and high school age youth from our local community, with an aim to include as many females and minorities as possible.

Our Karting 101 intro is a 8-week course that is required for each student to complete in order to participate in our more advanced classes. The next class starts in March and space is limited. Please email us with any questions. Details will be posted soon.

Following on the heels of Karting 101 is Karting 102. Students must first complete 101 in order to participate. We will spend more time learning machining and fabricating skills, sand blasting, livery design, and more!

Intro to Visual Storytelling is a 8-week course launching late Spring. This course deep dives into story, character, and production - the foundational components essential to all films, books, podcasts, interviews, social platforms, and videos.  Motorsports is the primary setting, and students in this course will learn alongside our Karting 101 students, documenting in the workshop and on the track.
